• August , 2012, 6-9: Our lab visited IAFPA 2012 (Santander/Spain) and delivered four oral presentations. See the programm for details.
• July 19-21, 2012: Our lab visited the PoRT Workshop in Glasgow/Uk giving poster presentations on speaker indiosyncratic speech rhythm and rhythmic variabiliy in Swiss German.
• May 21-25, 2012: Our lab visited Speech Prosody 2012 in Shanghai/China. We had two presentations, one on rhythmic variability in Swiss dialects and one on speech rhythm in synchronous speech.
• May, 2012: Agnes Kolmer and I got a small grant from Zuekl for investigating the perception of French word accent by Swiss and Standard German listeners.
• March 19, 2012: The Tagesanzeiger asked for my opinion on why whe see a face when we hear a voice (here).
• February, 2012: The university granted us 22 k CHF for a new recording room. We are currently negotiating a solution with StudioBox that should be in place in a few weeks time.
• February 1, 2012: I will talk at the Munich Phonetics department.
• News are not always good: On January 23rd a collaborator and friend of mine, Francisco Gutierrez Diez, from Murcia University died from a heart attack during a lecture aged 65. Francisco was Professor of English Phonetics and Phonology and we had a SENECA funded collaboration between UCL and Murcia University from 2007 to 9. It is hard to understand when people leave so unexpectedly and suddenly.
• January 26, 2012: Stephan Schmid will give a talk we co-authored on speech rhythm in bilinguals at AISV 2012.
• January 20, 2012: One of my Masters students and prospective PhD candidates, Daniel Friedrichs, was on the UZH news fighting for better funding condition for young researchers in Switzerland. Read the story here (German only).

• October 26-29, 2011: Conference on dialectal variability (Alemannentagung) at Strasbourg University giving a talk with Stephand Schmid and Dieter Studer on the aerodynamics of plosive production in Swiss German. 
• August 17-21, 2011: ICPhS in Hong Kong giving a talk about the perception of word duration (with Lea Hagmann) and a poster on the normalization of spontaneous speech data (with Lena Zipp).
• July 13-15, 2011: RPPW in Leipzig giving a talk on the perception of speech rhythm.
• July 4-8, 2011: Erasmus exchange with Marburg University (Gea de Jong and Herman Kuenzel).
• May 5-6, 2011: L2 rhythm workshop in Napels giving a talk on speech rhythm in bilingual speakers with Stephan Schmid, Mathias Mueller and Laura Tramutoli.
